Previous Work

You have to be good at a lot to be a successful news producer. You have to be a great and quick writer, have a creative mind, make split-second decisions, write to the voices of your anchors and build trusting relationships with anchors, reporters, meteorologists, directors and more.

WSMV

At WSMV, News4 Nashville, I began as the weekend morning producer and weekday 5 p.m. producer. After a few months, I earned a promotion to the weekday 10 p.m. show. I was known as a conversational writer who quickly adapted to writing in each anchor's voice. I told stories creatively and led the 10 p.m. team well during a months-long managerial vacancy.

During my time in Nashville, I covered COVID-19, racial unrest, the road rage shooting of a nurse, COVID-19 vaccines, the 2020 presidential election cycle, January 6th, severe weather events, tornado recovery and a Christmas Day bombing in downtown. These are examples of my best work at the station.

KAUZ

My first job out of college was in Wichita Falls, Texas. I began as the 5 p.m. producer and the crime beat content producer. After a little over a year, I earned a promotion and became the 6 and 10 p.m. producer. I brought solid writing skills and news judgment to the job, and learned so much in my two years there that furthered my career. I learned hard lessons about how to work with others, how to build trust and when not to take work home. I grew my storytelling skills and found new, creative ways to tell stories.

During my time at KAUZ, I covered murder trials and severe weather events; pitched, produced, wrote and edited my own package about event safety; produced election coverage, including a Facebook Live newscast when our fiber line was cut; and produced 90 minutes of live, unscripted special event coverage during the 2019 Hotter'N Hell Hundred.

College Work

Want to see what journalism work I did in college? Probably not, but if nothing else, this section can just be a great archive spot for me.

But, hey, if you're still reading, I received a well-rounded journalism education at the University of North Texas, producing video stories, audio stories, written stories and digital stories. I also studied advertising, PR, crisis communications, graphic design, social media and more.

Here are some of my favorite pieces from college:

- My favorite story from college. I focused on a student who ran on campus while wearing an altitude mask.

- The first assignment for my first video class. I'm still proud of how well I did on my first project.

- One of the longest stories I did, about the special collections section of the library.

- A good example of a story that didn't have many b-roll opportunities - so I got creative!

- Two promos I created for our student newscast. One is shot in SD and the other in HD.
